Watching the Big 12 Basketball Tournament in Philadelphia
update: Kansas wins in three closer-than-I-would-like games. They looked their best in the last 5 minutes against Texas. This is their third Big 12 championship in a row.
KU is the #2 seed.
Kansas (28-3) plays Nebraska at 7PM EDT tonight. This game will not be televised in Philadelphia. Nebraska has gone 0 and 4 against the Jayhawks in the past two years, losing by an average of 34 points.
If Kansas wins so they will play either Texas A & M or Kansas State at 4:20 PM on Saturday on ESPN2. There are watching parties at Casey’s in Malvern, PA and The Fox and Hound in Center City Philadelphia starting at around 4PM.
If Kansas wins that, they will play either Texas, Oklahoma State, Oklahoma, or Colorado in the Championship Game at 3PM. There will be watching parties in Malvern and Center City.
March Madness begins.

It’s also basketball time!
I would like to point out that the Kansas Jayhawks are 20-0 with 15-0 record on blowouts (19+ points). They are ranked second in the country.
I would also like to point out that they are playing Kansas State tonight who are ranked 22nd.
Update: The game can be watched on the internet at www.espn360.com for free.

Nothing But Nets
This is a faith-based ministry that hands out mosquito nets in Africa. They were featured on Americian Idol last night and that the Bill Gates Foundation supports them. Yesterday, April 25, was also the first time that the United States has officially observed National Malaria Awareness day. This disease has been irradicated in the United States, but kills a child in Africa every 30 seconds. A simple insecticide-treated bed net, that costs $10 apiece, could cut that figure in half. The NBA is also supporting this! They are also up for a Webbie for their excellent web page.

March Madness Symptoms
Signs of March Madness from my email:
“Let us pray…
Our Father, who art in Lawrence,
Hallowed be thy Game.
Thy bracket come.
Thy upset will be done, In Syracuse as it is in Allen Field House.
Give us this day our deserved game.
And forgive us our turnovers,
As we forgive Roy who double-crossed against us.
And lead us not into defeat,
But deliver us from East Coast bias,
For Kansas is the basketball kingdom,
And the tradition,
And the glory,
For ever and ever.
Amen.”
and this email to Jayhawks in PA:
Hello Jayhawks:
I am getting very anxious for 7:10PM tomorrow night to arrive. We have a first round match-up with Niagara. Niagara played Florida A&M on Tuesday night for the “right” to play Kansas in the first round. They will be very fired up & might give us a bit of competition in the first half. Then Kansas should turn on the after burners & take care of them in easy fashion.
An interesting footnote to this game. Do you remember during last years’ graduations in the area, the young man in Levittown, PA who wasn’t allowed to speak at his High School’s graduation – even though he was the class president? He was a senior at Harry S. Truman High School & people were worried about retaliation from some gang-related shootings? The young mans name is Tyrone Lewis & he plays basketball for Niagara!
I have received around 17 RSVP’s for tomorrow nights’ game. I would like to double that number. Come on Jayhawks – this is a very exciting time for us & we should be together. We need to get past the first round this year & that in itself will be cause for celebration. Have you seen the latest Sports Illustrated? Their bracket has Kansas as National Champion!!!!! Hopefully this won’t be a jinx – because we’re not on the cover, just the centerfold!!!
Let’s get together at Champps tomorrow night for dinner and drinks and Jayhawk Basketball. RSVP to me even if you’re just a “maybe” – I need to give Champps a call with an approximate head count. I look forward to seeing all of you who have RSVP’d & many, many more!
Rock Chalk,
Paige Davis
