I read this Reuter’s article at Christianity Today – here
WASHINGTON, USA – The Pentagon cannot account for 190,000 AK-47 rifles and pistols given to Iraqi security forces in 2004 and 2005, or about half the weapons earmarked for soldiers and police, according to a government report.
First of all – this article makes it sound like the US is handing out 100s of thousands of guns to tightly wound up people. No wonder that so many poor people are leaving Iraq for Syria and Jordan – where there is no education, limitted food, and poor health care! How does this make the situation safer? http://www.reliefweb.int/rw/rwb.nsf/db900SID/SHES-75QV4X?OpenDocument
Second of all – AK-47s are dangerous assault weapons designed to kill people at short range. They are essentially submachine guns that you can set to fire a magazine of about 100 bullets all at once, or you can set to fire a bullet whenever you pull the trigger. They are illegal for civilians to own or import to the United States.
Third of all, the pentagon is not accounting for the weapons. We do not know if these guns are being sold to our enemies or used by our friends.
