Celebrate John Coltrane’s 82nd Birthday Party

It’s a free (of course) birthday block party for jazz pioneer John Coltrane this Saturday Sept 23 2008. John won’t be there because he is dead (Sept 23, 1926-July 17, 1967) , but there will be a lot of saxophone music and jazz. It is at the historic Church of the Advocate at 18th and Diamond Streets, Philadelphia.

“I would like to bring to people something like happiness. I would like to discover a method so that if I want it to rain, it will start right away to rain. If one of my friends is ill, I’d like to play a certain song and he will be cured; when he’d be broke, I’d bring out a different song and immediately he’d receive all the money he needed.”[8]

It would be nice to celebrate the great John Coltraine’s birthday today.

I would also be nice if your announcement was more sensitive in how you address his passing.

“John won’t be there because he’s dead” ?
this can be really misread and sounds ironic.
    be kind and thoughtful!

  2. Sand,

I didn’t mean to be not kind. John Coltraine is a great man and a great musician. It is wonderful that people are celebrating his life.
